MEDICA continued to grow as specialists and trade visitors from around the world obviously did not want to miss out on the 40th anniversary of the show (November 18 ? 21, 2009). The four-day event in Düsseldorf, Germany remains by far the largest and most international medical trade fair in the world. A little over 137,000 trade visitors from over 100 countries registered for the event. 45% of all visitors came from outside Germany (2008: 42%), as a particularly high number traveled to Düsseldorf from the Asian growth markets and the Arab region. 4,318 exhibitors (2008: 4,313) from 59 nations offered them a clearly segmented product line-up with countless new products, systems and services for the entire spectrum of both in- and out-patient care. With 47 (32 in 2008) and well over 6,000 square feet of exhibition space rented, Canada set new record at the show. It also was the fastest growing exhibitor nations in terms of space and number of exhibitors among the 23 largest exhibitor nations. As one observer noted, many of the presented innovations would be instrumental in the continued cost cutting efforts by the global healthcare providers, thus giving them an extra edge in the current market place.
